After performing medical aesthetic treatments—everything from Botox and Forma to microneedling and fillers—we always review the aftercare procedures with our patients. Why? Because we know that these post-procedure steps can optimize healing, minimize complications, and ultimately, affect outcomes.

We’ll often remind you that the success of your treatment is a result of two things:

  1. The treatment itself
  2. Your commitment to proper aftercare

I’d like to use this post to outline the top reasons why you should adhere to our aftercare recommendations—and reap the benefits.

Proper Aftercare Promotes Healing

Since your treatments can involve needles or other tools that disrupt the skin barrier and underlying tissues, you need to take steps to allow your body to recover more effectively. This can include wound care and proper hygiene measures—these steps promote optimal healing and most importantly, minimize the risk of infection or complications like scarring and/or excessive inflammation.

After your procedure, we’ll always outline what you need to do once you leave our clinic. We’ll talk about it and you’ll have a chance to ask any questions. You’ll also walk away with a sheet that you can take home which includes an emergency phone number that you can call if you have any concerns.

Proper Aftercare Can Enhance Results

When you come to our clinic, we develop a treatment plan based on your aesthetic goals. To meet those goals, we use our expertise to suggest the right procedures, make sure we take every safety precaution, and communicate with you throughout the process. Then, we pass the baton along to you with detailed instructions on what you need to do once you get home.

From experience, we know that aftercare plays a critical role. Your body will respond to the treatment in its own unique way, so how well you follow the after care plan can influence the longevity and final results of your treatment.

Don’t forget that aftercare not only includes things like avoiding sun exposure, keeping the treatment area clean, or restricting certain activities. Aftercare also involves using the right products for your specific needs, as suggested by your doctor. If you choose to forgo the purchase of suggested products, that’s not a problem. But be sure to ask questions about whether or not you have the right products at home.

Proper Aftercare Amplifies Your Well-Being

Medical aesthetic treatments can have a significant impact on a person’s self-esteem and body image. Proper aftercare can contribute to the patient’s psychological well-being during the recovery phase. By following aftercare instructions and seeing positive progress, patients feel more in control and confident about their decision to undergo the treatment.
